, of Tampa, FL, passed away on March 2, 2023, peacefully at her home. Her life was full of joy, thanks to her loving family, her active lifestyle, and her wonderful group of friends.
Acey was born in Waycross, GA, where she was blessed to have the positive influence of a very special educator and local legend, Bessie Maynard. Her encouragement led Acey to obtain a BS in Nursing from Emory University and become a neurosurgical nurse in Atlanta, GA. Acey's love of learning continued throughout her life with various classes, including Art Appreciation at the University of South Florida, and History and French at the University of Tampa.
She met and married Jim Winge, from their hometown who had returned home to attend the University of Georgia after serving in the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence during WW2 in San Francisco. Acey worked with Jim, to build several successful businesses. They enjoyed 63 years together before Jim passed away in 2014.
At birth she was named "Grace", but it quickly evolved into "Acey", which served her well as she became an avid tennis player. Acey played on the Suncoast Tennis League and on other teams at Palma Cia Country Club. Her love of tennis led her to attend Wimbledon and the US Tennis Open several times.
Acey was drawn to the beautiful beaches of Florida. She enjoyed birdwatching, swimming, water sports, and especially walking the shoreline "shelling" to build her vast collection of beautiful treasured sea shells from Sanibel and Captiva.
She and Jim moved to Davis Islands in 1977. They traveled extensively, but always returned to their home on Tampa Bay.
Acey served as a Tampa Museum of Art Docent, member of the Friends of the Arts, and a member of Palma Cia United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her friends playing bridge and meeting for book club.
She truly did "ace" the meaning of living a happy and fulfilling life.
Acey is survived by her children: Kathryn Winge Daniels (Rick Daniels), Robin Winge, and David Winge (Margaret Winge); grandchildren: Robyn Hermans (Jake Hermans), David Winge, Jr., and Emily Winge Morrison (Townsend Morrison); and great-grandchildren: Jack Hermans, Lauren Hermans, Mimi Morrison, and Olivia Morrison; plus, her beloved pup, Stafford.
