Abraham Perry Sugarman
Beloved Healer of the Mind and Spirit
Abraham (most often went by the name, Perry) was a sensitive genius. He could have pursued any career, but chose to become a medical doctor, specializing in psychiatry. He saved countless lives and turned away no patient who was in dire need of treatment. He could be defined by a statement he made to several doctors who appeared at his office one afternoon to take him to lunch. Following one doctor's comment about the need to limit the number of Medicare and Medicaid patients he treated, Perry said, "God will never ask me how much money I made during my lifetime."
Perry's heritage was Jewish. He was the son of Evalyn Sugarman Rogers (nee, Sohmer) and Norman Sugarman. With his first wife, he had two children: son, Matthew and daughter, Sara. He was the beloved husband of Susan, whom he married 13 years prior to his death. Perry had one sister, Linda Last.
Known also for his quick-witted sense of humor and broad knowledge of both the physical and social sciences, Perry remained a lifetime learner. He died too soon and at a time at which he was sorely needed in this world.
